Artwork Preparation
Why AI-Generated Artwork Often Isn't Print-Ready

About the team behind this guideA generated illustration may look convincing in a social post but fail when enlarged, separated into spot colors or cut along a precise contour. The gap is between a compelling image and a usable production file.
Start with the actual output requirement
DTF, screen printing, engraving, vinyl and packaging do not use the same production files. A generated JPG might work as a reference but can be inappropriate as a final deliverable. Collect dimensions, process and supplier specifications before deciding how to fix the art.
Inspect the image at final size
Look for blurry or malformed lettering, inconsistent repeated shapes, merged outlines, tiny unwanted objects, color shifts and compression damage. Enlarging with an AI tool can change details but does not guarantee brand accuracy or manufacturing feasibility.
Choose retouching, reconstruction or redesign
A photographic composition may need careful raster retouching. A logo-like graphic may benefit from a controlled vector redraw. Lettering that must be exact should be corrected manually. Where the generated artwork does not represent the intended product accurately, a revision to the design itself may be required.
Prepare per method
For screen printing, discuss color count and separation strategy with the printer. For DTF, confirm transparent edges, size and raster export needs. For cutting or engraving, create appropriate paths and remove ambiguous shapes. Do not assume a one-click vector conversion solves fine-art texture.
Check rights and brand integrity
Confirm the requester has the right to use the reference art and any included trademarks. Generated artwork can accidentally contain look-alike logos or unintended text; these should not pass review unnoticed.
Why a human review matters
Production preparation involves deciding which details are intentional, what can be simplified and where technical uncertainty requires the manufacturer's answer. Monk can review AI-assisted artwork and quote scoped repair or redraw work, but cannot guarantee any specific press or machine outcome.
